The fourth dimension of image and sound is already speeding up on the infor=mation highway, using Internet media as its vehicle. It is, perhaps, an eig=hth art, which is changing everything. The processes of creation and distri=bution, as well as the essense of the relationship between a work of art an=d its spectator, become interactive, open.
Cinematographic and video creation, multimedia, as well as the perception o=f time through them are ready for optical and broadband networks, and soon =will be available in our homes.
The 21st Century avant-garde artists are blossoming on the fertile ground o=f Cyberspace. They are accessible and magical. A click in the wonderful dig=ital world.
The e-magic 2002 events, organized within the framework of the 43rd Interna=tional Film Festival of Thessaloniki, aims to provide an overview of the br=oad spectrum of artistic creation, which is growing in and being made acces=sible through Internet. This years e-magic will focus on audiovisual, in=teractive and cinematography-related works.
e-magic 2002 will try to bring the Festivals audience into contact with =audiovisual net artworks and to open, for the first time in Greece, a discu=ssion which will lead to a prolific dialog about the developing new forms o=f expression and communication media, which will become more and more famil=iar and accessible to an audience which is growing in numbers and in the de=pth of its comprehension. Several media theorists believe that we are witne=ssing the start of major developments leading to the establishment of expre=ssive and communicative meta-media forms that will both open new horizons a=nd also pose new problems.
e-magic 2002 aspires to be the inaugurating event for a permanent yearly In=ternational Conference, Festival and juried competition of Internet meta-me=dia, which will be organized by the Thessaloniki Film Festival.
